Kids

Birthday plans got a bit messed up for me this year, so I’m having to do everything in advance.  Not that I mind.  That cuts down on the waiting time.

Last weekend, I went up to my friend Elisha’s house for a tatting lesson.  We had planned doing this on my birthday, but circumstances intervenened. It was a lovely afternoon.

The Wahlquists have their own pond on their farm now, and we spotted this little guy hunting for crayfish while working on the tatting lesson.

Elisha also introduced me to Wendy, their three month old Nubian doeling.

Isn’t she cute?

Recently, they have bought a new goat – this one is an Alpine – as a companion for Wendy.  I haven’t seen her yet, but Elisha sent me this picture.

Thank you, Elisha, for a wonderful afternoon!

More baby pictures.

It just doesn’t get any better than this.

More pictures of the new arrival.

We have a new arrival in Fairview Farms.

The Bug

Meet Doodlebug.  Or, more specificly, the Bug.  At the time we were at the alpaca farm, she was a day shy of two weeks old.

Needless to say, she got lots of attention.

When her mother, Star, was brought out to be sheared, they asked Emily to hold the Bug nearby so her mother wouldn’t become overly anxious.

The Bug weighed 9 lbs at birth; two weeks later she was about 11.

Emily said she felt like she was holding a fawn.

Baby kisses!

Peekaboo!

Everyone came over to pet Bug.  She was irresistible.

Emily was smitten.

Back to the barn after the shearing.

The Bug nursing.

Mom, Dad, can we get one for Christmas?

My friend, Elisha, e-mailed me these photos this morning since she knows I have a keen interest in dairy goats.

This is Wendy, a Nubian doeling.  She is almost three weeks old.

Cows

This past weekend, we took a few country drives.  As usual, we passed fields of cattle.

For some strange reason, we came across some very friendly cattle.

This herd seemed to be composed of primarily yearlings.

They were exceptionally curious.  Most cows seem to bolt away from the fence when you walk up.

In this pasture, there was this adorable newborn.

He prefered to stay with his mommy, who watched us warily from a distance.

Then yesterday on the way home from church, we passed this cattle farm in Celina.  I noticed something odd about the cows.

They were moving.

No, actually, they were running.

I wondered if these cows rarely saw a car.  They were coming straight for us.

Most of these were longhorns.  Obviously.

This one had the biggest rack.

Homestead Heritage cont. – Puppies

At Homestead Heritage, there was a little petting zoo with several litters of puppies.  This lab mix Kathy is holding was the best puppy of the lot - perfectly calm, gentle and sweet.  It was really too bad we couldn’t take him home – he would make anyone a great family dog.

There was a litter of pug mixes.

That’s not a puppy!  (It was a newborn Boer goat.)

Kathy fell in love with the beagle puppy…

And the sheepdog puppy, and… ;-)

Happiness is a warm puppy.
