Homestead Heritage: Sheepdog Demonstration
Here are the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Uh-oh, little brothers. I think something’s headed our way.
Whee! Here I come!
The world champion sheepdog circles after the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Clear out boys - it’s after us!
Now what’s it doing?
Stop and go, stop and go - I wish he’d make up his mind!
Maybe we’d better go back and cross the bridge…
Homestead Heritage cont. - Puppies
At Homestead Heritage, there was a little petting zoo with several litters of puppies. This lab mix Kathy is holding was the best puppy of the lot - perfectly calm, gentle and sweet. It was really too bad we couldn’t take him home - he would make anyone a great family dog.
There was a litter of pug mixes.
That’s not a puppy! (It was a newborn Boer goat.)
Kathy fell in love with the beagle puppy…
And the sheepdog puppy, and…
Happiness is a warm puppy.
Guess who got sprayed by a skunk last night.
No, she’s not too happy about it. Especially since it’s the same skunk as the last time. This makes her fourth encounter with skunks in her doggy life, and the score is Skunk 4, Dog 0.
Kathy’s name is on her papers, so she has the glorious privilege of de-skunking her.
Bonnee
I meant to post this a while back, but we were experiencing computer problems, so I could not. This is a slideshow of our Sheltie, Bonnee, who died on May 17th, 2004.
Spooky - a Happy Ending!
Last August, we were adopted by a beautiful stray puppy that we were unable to keep. Fortunately, a lady from a local Golden Retriever Rescue Group was able to place him in a foster home. Well, today, Mom got this e-mail on the computer…
You might remember me from last August when I rescued Spooky from your house. The Golden Retriever rescue group that I volunteer for could not take him so I came and got him from you. I just wanted you to see how well he is doing and thank you again for taking such good care of him until he could find his forever home. The very first couple that agreed to foster him ended up keeping him and they just love him. He gets along great with their dog Nikki. They had recently lost a dog so it was perfect timing for them. They even kept the name that your daughter gave him, Spooky!!
Here is Spooky in his new home. I wish we could’ve kept him, but I am very happy that he has a great place to live. But I think we need to get another Spooky puppy for Kimmy some day in the future. Or a Spooky puppy for me.

Here is the link to the origional Spooky post.
Baby Pictures
Recently, I unearthed some “baby” pictures.
This is Cloud when he was 3 weeks old. Isn’t he cute!?!
This is Joy at six weeks on the day we brought her home. Now that’s cute!
Cloud at 8 weeks with a two-month old Abigail. Notice the bat ears.
Another shot of Cloud the Cool Cat at 8 weeks. Hard to believe he was ever that thin!
Pets, pets, and… more pets
We like pets in my family. Ever since I can remember, we’ve always had some animal or another, dogs, fish, cats, hermit crabs, hamsters, you name it. We also like to meet pets in other families. For example…
Meet Jake the Coonhound, owned by the Cain family.
I think he looks like Old Dan from Where the Red Fern Grows. He was very, very sweet and the kids are still talking about him.
Over the past week and a half, we’ve been petsitting for some friends that were visiting out of state. Meet Cassie, the Mini Australian Shepherd.
All the kids just loooooove her.
Cassie seems to prefer Kathy over everyone else.
She’s a very playful puppy (she not a year old yet). Here are some shots of her playing fetch with Kimmy.
Can I eat him, pleeeeeease?
How big of a cage does this bird need?
Whoa… breakfast!
Scratch my tummy, please.
We’ve also been taking care of Daisy, a lovely eight-month old cockatiel. Interestingly enough, she was also raised at the Kookaburra Bird Shop. We have strong suspicions that she’s Tango sister, as I remember a bird just like her in Tango’s clutch when Kathy picked him out.
Here’s Daisy and Tango for comparison.
Daisy is the best-tempered cockatiel I’ve ever met. She was perfectly amiable around the children (something Taralee has a hard time doing) and kept putting her head down to be scratched.
Unfortunately, Taralee got a little jealous with all the attention Daisy was getting.
See, I’m still cute!
Look at me!
Actually, once they got used to each other, both birds ignored each other for the most part.
Darcy, Kathy’s English Budgie, has just finished his adult molt (I guess that means he’s grown up…sigh…). The other day, I was surprised and delighted to hear him “talking” very softly. In about a month, I expect him to turn into a little chatterbox.
Tango is more ridiculous that ever. He’s really whistling now and we’re working on teaching him new songs.
Tango and Darcy do get along, unless they’re on top of their cages. On the bird tree, though, they seem to be quite friendly.
Life here is good for pets!
